Planning Healthy Meals With The Biggest Loser Family Cookbook

by sarasayshi on June 29, 2009

I decided to go ahead and plan my meals all out for this week. I was going to see if it really was cheaper to eat healthier. So I opened up my Biggest Loser Family Cookbook: Budget-Friendly Meals Your Whole Family Will Love and I looked through to find meals I would cook through out the week. I am totally on a meat crave right now or something because 90% of my dinner meals had some sort of beef. I also marked the recipes I could use for breakfast meals and snacks as well. As far is desserts go, there were plenty of great ideas in the book but I just wanted to keep costs down and go cheap so I ended up purchasing a box of 12 low-fat fudge ice cream bars that are only 60 calories each.

So after my meal planning it was time to hit the store. I was shocked when I saw I had spent $140.00 for one week's worth! Yikes that beef craving was costly! So yea, it definitely can be more costly to eat healthier but when I think about it, some of the meals I have planned out will easily serve as 2 dinners so I can freeze the rest and break it out a week later if I want.

Tonight we had "Pizza Burgers" and I was actually how shocked  the size of my hamburger was. It was like a restaurant style burger only without the mayo and added fat. It was flavorful and satisfying.

As I am typing this, I am enjoying the Orange Creamsicle Smoothie that is also in The Biggest Loser Family Cookbook. Only 250 calories and it's far healthier and tastier than an Orange Julius!

I made a turkey and spinach wrap today for lunch and I was not impressed by the Light italian Flat Bread. Ick! It left me with an odd taste in my mouth and the texture was most unpleasant. I won't be using that flat bread again. But it was a very low calorie flat bread. It was only 90 calories.

So far the cookbook is scoring points on flavor, ease of use and truly healthy.

I also found out they offer group spinning at my gym at 10:30 am, so I am going to shoot for going to that on wednesday and friday this week. Then I head to my parents for the 4th of July weekend. I am so scared I will gain weight while down there. I need to come up with a creative plan that will help me out.
