January Flat Belly Diet Update

by sarasayshi on January 7, 2010

I managed to not only survive the Holidays but I am also proud to say I am 0.2 ounces lighter than I was even a week before Christmas. This is the first time in my life that I didn't pack on 5 pounds from the week of Christmas until New Year's Day.

I have totally evolved with my way of thinking about food. I found myself having smaller portions at every meal and making a conscious effort to go for the heart healthy monounsaturated fatty acids over just plain fats. I still ate what the family at. For example on Christmas day my mom made a Mexican style dinner which offered an enchilada dish smothered with cheese and another casserole my brother-in-law made that had a ton cheese and flour tortillas. I literally served myself about 1/4 cup of each dish, ate 2 rolls which I dipped in olive oil and called it a night. That night, I still didn't feel that great. After dinner I felt sick as though throwing up would somehow make me feel better. Instead of starting up a new damaging behavior of making myself purge, I talked my mom and older sister to go for a "long" walk. it was indeed a long walk. We managed to get ourselves lost and had to take a longer route to get back to familiar territory. It was freezing outside too. We ended up walking for 40 minutes. It was great and I immediately felt better after wards.

I also found that I wasn't tempted to eat pies and cookies that were around. Instead I dug into the holiday chocolate. I would find that just 2-3 small pieces of chocolate would satisfy my cravings and I felt good after eating them. I wasn't hungry or thinking about other foods.

After 4 days of visiting family, I came home with my son and bounced right back to eating my flat belly diet foods. On Monday, while my son was home from school for the week I managed to cook him eggs in a tortilla (his favorite) and I would just eat something like 10 wheat crackers with 2 TBSP of peanut butter and a piece of fruit. I found myself still feeling satisfied with my flat belly meals. I didn't go grocery shopping that day, when I really should have.

On Tuesday morning I decided to brave the scale and see how much damage I had done from Christmas. I was shocked to see I only weighed 194.8 pounds. how could it be that I had only gained 1 pound???

On Wednesday, my son was asking what was for lunch and I didn't really have anything left in the house to prepare. He had ate the last of the eggs on Tuesday night so I treated him to his favorite burger place, In-N-Out. He was stoked. And even when we saw the huge line up of about 20 cars waiting in the drive-thru, I couldn't break his heart since this truly is a special treat. So we waiting in the drive-thru which actually wasn't all that long. he got 2 cheeseburgers with no sauce, just ketchup and I got 2 hamburgers with only mustard. Came home and enjoyed our burgers together.

later that night my son's father picked him up for the weekend and then some. he was going to have him from Wed-Sunday. All alone for New year's eve I treated myself. I went grocery shopping and spent only $50 on my foods I would eat to follow my flat belly diet and then I splurged and picked up a single slice of chocolate cake from the store bakery. Then, I headed to my favorite local burrito place and got a super chile verde burrito with chips and salsa. I came home and put the groceries away and ate my burrito. I decided to save the chips for snacking on later. that burrito kept me full all day long that I didn't need to eat dinner. but at about 10pm, I ate half of the cake slice and I ate the rest of the cake for new year's day breakfast! lol

So as you can see, for the most part I was pretty good. If I ate a bit much at one meal, I would compensate at the next meal or skip the meal altogether. never feeling hungry or unsatisfied.

This week I decided to return to the gym. I hadn't worked out in 2 weeks. So I started my routine up again and as of today I am weighing in at 193.4. I am sure as things had returned to normal, I will finally be able to break out of the 190's.
